Nasarawa State Government has disclosed that arrangements have been concluded for compulsory medication and treatment of victims of rape and all forms of sexual violence in the State.
CAPITAL POST reports that a bill for a law to provide for the compulsory Medical Treatment and Care for Child and Victims of Sexual Violence and For Related Matters was before the State House of Assembly which scaled second reading.
This was announced by the Speaker of the Assembly, Ibrahim Balarabe while addressing the Joint House Committees on Judiciary and Women Affairs to work on the bill and report to the House accordingly.
He also said that law to Establish Nasarawa State College of Nursing and Midwifery and other related matter has scaled second reading.
“I will commit this Bill for a law to Establish the Nasarawa State College of Nursing and Midwifery ,Lafia and other Matters Related Thereto to the House committee on Health to work on the bill and we are expecting the report on Deember 21, 2020′, Balarabe stated.
Continuing, a bill to Establish Nasarawa State Contributory Health Scheme 2020 is now into a second reading.
“I will also commit this bill for a Law to Establish the Nasarawa State Contributory Health Scheme 2020 and Other Related Matters to the House standing committee to work on the bill and we are expecting the report on December 22, 2020,” he said.
The speaker said that if the bills finally passed into law, they would improve on the health status of the people of the state.
While attesting to the importance of the bill for a law to provide compulsory medical treatment and care for victims of sexual harassment, Majority leader, Comrade Tanko Tunga, said that the bill was to provide for a compulsory medical treatment and care for child victim of violence in the state, if finally passed into law.
Tunga while giving the substance of a bill for a law to Establish the Nasarawa State College of Nursing and Midwifery, Lafia and other Matters Related Thereto said that the bill is all about strengthening the capacity and upgrading of the college to ensure effective service delivery and to improve on health manpower development in the state.
Hon. Daniel Oga ogazi, the Deputy Majority Leader of the House while giving the substance of a bill for a Law to Establish the Nasarawa State Contributory Health Scheme 2020 and Other Related Matters said that the bill was to provide for a mandatory and affordable healthcare system for the people of the state.
He said that the bill if finally passed into law would enable citizens access quality health care service at affordable rate.
Hon Danladi Jatau, the Minority leader of the House seconded the motions for the three bills to scale into second reading.
The minority leader said that if the bills passed into law, they would improve on the health status of the people of the state.
The House unanimously agreed for the three bills to scale into second reading after Hon.Peter Akwe,Barr.Mohammed Alkali and Hon Abdullaziz Danladi threw their weights behind the bills.
