NASIEC slates November 14, for Councillorship bye-election

The Nasarawa Indepndent Electoral Commission (NASIEC)A has slated November 14, for bye-election for Gangaren Tudu electoral ward of Keffi Local Government Area (LGA), as result of the death, of Councillor representing the ward recently.

The State chairman of the electoral body, Usman Wandai made this known while briefing newsmen in Lafia.

“We come to agree with the date of the bye-election as result of the death of Councillor representing the ward, Adamu Saleh which occurred in September 18, 2020.

“By the powers conferred on us, we fixed November 18 for the bye-election and we assure you the election will be free, fair and credible.

“We will give all political parties and their candidates a level playing ground to test their acceptability and popularity,” the Chairman added.

Wandai further explained that the Commission would meet with political parties and lift ban on campaigns ahead of the bye-election, adding that electoral officers are expected to commence training on October 22.

“All the political parties are expected to hold their primaries between October 24-26 and submit names of their candidates latest October 28”, NASIEC Boss said.

Wandai states that sales of nomination forms is on October 30 and will be submitted on November 2, 2020.

He also explained that the commission is fully prepared to conduct LGAs election as the three year tenure of the present officials is elapsing in May 2021.

Meanwhile, the NASIEC Chairman had also promised to partner the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) who were on a courtesy visit towards ensuring adequate publicity of the activities of the commission including elections.

Responding, Mr Isaac Ukpoju, Chairman of the Correspondents’ Chapel assured that they would ensure adequate reports of the activities of the commission.
