Relief has come the way of Nigerians as the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has pronounced the scrapping of Special Anti-robbery Squad of the Nigeria Police Force.

The disbandment on Sunday followed the audacious protests by Nigerians tagged: “#ENDSARS which started for days now over atrocious activities of the operatives.

Change of Name

The IGP said, the operatives would be deployed to other Police formations.

Men of SARS have constituted nightmares to the citizens they were supposed to protect with cases of extra-judicial killings, rape and robbery, a situation that has lingered for long and that has drawn the ire of Nigerians.

The IGP made it known at a briefing, saying: “The Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the Nigeria Police Force otherwise known as SARS is hereby dissolved in all the 36 State Police Commands and the Federal Capital Territory.”

Further to the development, the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), DCP Frank MBA in a statement said, the Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the Nigeria Police has been dissolved across the 36 States of the country and the Federal Capital Territory.

Mba explained that the dissolution was the yearnings of Nigerians, hence, the Police authority has immediately deployed men and officers of the former SARS to States Police Command with immediate effect.
