Breaking: COVID-19 N5,000 levy protest rocks Delta poly
Delta State Polytechnic, Ozoro students Friday, are protesting against the COVID-19 levy imposed on them by the management of the institution.
Students of the Polytechnic were as early as 7.00 am blocked the main entrance to the school in their large numbers asking for withdrawal of the levy by the school management.
A student who craved anonymity told CAPITAL POST that all the returning students for 2019/2020 were asked to pay N5,000 as COVID-19 levy, which he said was unreasonable.
But, prior to today’s protest, the school in a circular directed students to pay N5,000 to enable authorities prepare safety measures for students while on campus.
A lecturer of the polytechnic, who spoke in confidence, confirmed that staff have not been able to gain access into the school’s premises due to the protest against the COVID-19 fee.
Students insisted that the management of the school was out to extort money from them in the guise of COVID-19, while they are calling on the governor of Delta State, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa to intervene.
