As Schools resumed in Nasarawa State yesterday, October 5th the state Chairman of Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools, Mr. Gebrel Angwashi has appealed to Governor Abdullahi Sule to reverse earlier declaration of free education in the State.
He made the pasionate appeal in an interview with CAPITAL POST in Lafia.
“The free education policy is not in the best interest of education in the State because it has created a total setback in the sector. He added.
Continuing, that free education has no room in the State considering the backwardness the sector had bedeviled the system. “We are all aware that Governor Abdullahi Sule has accorded top priority in education. Angwashi stated.
“Let me also use this priviledge to call on, Sule as matter of urgency to adresed the issue of chairs, desk and other instructional materials across schools to enhance conducive atmosphere of learning in the state.

On his part, the State chairman of the National Parents Teachers Association of Nigeria, Nasarawa State chapter, Umaru Ebenya has same called on Governor Abdullahi Sule to reverse the free Primary and Secondary education programme.
“The introduction of free education has poised crack in the wheel of our educational system in the state.
The State chairman of NAPTAN, described education as capital intensive, hence, it should not be left alone in the hands of the government.
Umaru Ebenya said the free education policy introduced by the past administration of Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura has done more harm than good to the education sector.
“Our primary and Secondary schools in the State are in comatose for lack of seats, continued assessment dossiers, chalk, dusters or ball for chalk board.
