Senator representing Plateau North in the National Assembly and Deputy Chairman Senate Committee on Defence Sen. Istifanus Dung Gyang has encouraged Nigerians to know that all hope is not lost even when the country celebrates diamond jubilee at 60.

Change of Name

Gyang in a Press statement signed by his Special Assistant on Media and Protocol Hon. Musa Ibrahim Ashom issued on Thursday morning to Journalists in Jos, said, it is natural and human for most Nigerians to be despondent particularly when inventory of the nation is taken in practical terms as it relates to development indices and governance rating, 60 years after independence.

He said whichever sector comes under focus, the story is one of pain and failed opportunity.

“From Power to Infrastructure, Economy to Education, Health to Agriculture, worsestill, the pervading insecurity across the nation, northern states in particular, etc, etc, it is all a sorry story. The latest being the added burden that citizens bear of exorbitant electricity tariff, pump price of petroleum products, rising inflation and sky rocketing prices of goods and services, etc”.

Senator Gyang noted that the good news however is that all hope is not lost, saying it will take more than mare wishes for Nigeria’s needed turn around to materialize in the direction of growth and development.

“There must be a national rebirth, love for country and fellow citizens. Nigerians must also be willing to path ways with the current attitude where leadership recruitment is guided by ethnic and religious sentiment rather than competence and tested integrity of aspiring leaders.

“The need of the hour is visionary, altruistic, and purposeful leadership that gives effect to inclusive and good governance. Leadership that is selfless and statesmanly commanding loyalty of citizens across ethnic and religious divides through equity and fairness. Leadership that engenders confidence of citizens in both the nation and government.

“That leadership is possible and available. Citizens must take responsibility to birth and bring it forth. 2023 is another opportunity for Nigeria and Nigerians now that we are 60 years of age.

The Lawmaker assures the people of Plateau North Senatorial District of his commitment to credible and result oriented representation that will impact the entire Constituency.

Senator Gyang equally commits himself to do more to peace building through constructive engagement with all stakeholders resulting in harmonious communal coexistence, the current hiccups notwithstanding.
