Nasarawa schools resumption: Parents appeal for COVID-19 school fees waiver

Now that Nasarawa State, Governor, Abdullahi Sule has approved October 5th for reopening of both public and private schools across the state, parents have appealed to him to waive school fees for their children, saying, they can’t afford to pay for tuition as a result of COVID-19 pandemic.

“The call has become imperative looking at the situation in the country and world economy now that there is no money”, a source told our correspondent.

“We are now eating from hand to mouth since the outbreak of this coronavirus. Things are very difficult to many homes”. He continued

Speaking with CAPITAL POST, Mr. Emmanuel Abashon, a farmer who was blessed with 7 children cried out over economic dwindling, saying, “when I heard the announcement of schools reopening, I almost fainted because 4 out of 7 children I have are in higher institution.

“Where can I get money to pay their school fees as everything is tied down especially those of us living in rural areas”.

Also, Alkasim Ibrahim Dauda made the same request to Governor, Abdullahi Sule to “tamper justice with mercy”, hence the need to declar resumption free.

Mrs. Veronica Uwankwe, a widow of 4 undergraduate at Isa Mustapha Agwai Polytechnic Lafia, College of Education Akwanga and Nasarawa State University, Keffi told our correspondent that, “when I was informed about school resumption, my blood pressure rised to 280.”

She remarked! “Wan nem, make I use this platform beg our Governor Sule to please help us in the name of God. No money in this country.” She speaks in pigin.

Our correspondent who monitored the situation reports that 85 percent of parents would not afford to pay for their children registration fees following economic problem which affected a lot of household by the coronavirus.

Findings revealed that only IMAP Lafia indigent students pay at least between N25,000-N30,000 including other charges. While other tertiary institution own by the State government pays higher.
