Pastors and Christian leaders have been challenged by the executive governor of Anambra State Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, that they should address reasons many church members are abandoning their Christian faith for idolatry.

According to him, idolatry and shrine worship is the fastest growing religion in the South Eastern Nigeria, hence, he counseled Pastors and Christian leaders not only to concentrate on teaching of faith, but to promote morals among their members.

The governor stated this in his address to over 170 Anglican bishops at their annual retreat in Awka, capital of the State.

Soludo pointed out that the pursuit of wealth has over taken moral values which he said, has increased evil as well as people no longer believed in hardwork.

The governor noted that this trend is particularly worrisome in his state.

The governor warned that the “get-rich-quick” mentality is fueling insecurity and kidnapping.

He emphasized that the church must lead by example, promoting values that prioritize character over wealth and service over self-interest.

Soludo also pointed out that many religious institutions have failed to question the origins of the wealth donated by their congregants, thus tacitly endorsing unethical means of acquiring riches.

He urged church leaders to restore the right values and serve as models of integrity and righteousness.

Soludo reminded the church of its duty to protect Nigeria’s spiritual and moral well-being, noting that the country’s future depends on nurturing a generation that values integrity over wealth and faith over fortune
