The Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) has made case for the unconditional release of its leader, El-Zakzaky and his wife. El-Zakzaky has been in prison for sometime now following the massacre in Zaria Kaduna State in December 12, 2015.
The IMN on Sunday in this year’s annual conference on Islamic Thought which themed Unity, Justice and Freedom, a Solution to Nigerian Problem’ held in Bauchi, said the federal government should unconditionally release the leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, Sheik Ibraheem El-Zakzay and his wife, Malama Zeenat El-Zakzaky.
Speaking at conference, the Professor of History Bayero University Kano, Dahiru Yahya said, “The Government of Kaduna state should drop all charges against El-Zakzaky and speed up his release, saying, it would go along way in promoting unity and justice among Nigerians, without which there will be no freedom.”
He commended members of the Islamic Movement for choosing the path of peace and dialogue in the quest for their struggle, he therefore urges them not to relent and bebfrustrated into changing their methods.
Similarly, the representative of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Mr Sulisma Lamuel said that the government as a matter of urgency should let go of the El-Zakzay’s case, adding that Nigerians should stick to the culture of unity and peace.
He therefore, welcome the initiative of the conference and suggest its expansion to accommodate more Christian groups.
“We need a forum like this so as to bridge the gap between us and foster the spirit of brotherhood especially now that the country is gearing to celebrate 60 year of being together,” he said.
Others participants who gave goodwill messages include; Sheikh Ahmad Yashi, Sheikh Dahiru Bauch, Shekih Shareef Ibraheem Saleh, Sheikh Abdul Jabbar Nasiru Kabara and Arch Bishop Matthew Kuka.
They also joined calls for immediate release of the Sheikh Zakzaky and other Nigerians that are being held unjustly by the Government.
