For lack of N20,000, I couldn’t attend University – Ice Prince
In an appearance on the ‘Listen’ podcast Panshak Henry Zamani aka Ice Prince, a Nigerian singer, recounted his childhood hardships growing up as an orphan.
Ice prince opened up about the difficulties he encountered after losing both of his parents at a young age, including how financial struggles led him to lose his university admission.
He explained that his father passed away when he was just 11, and his mother died when he was around 21.
He expressed “I don’t have a mother or father. I’m an only son. That’s quite tough. I was eleven years old when I lost my dad. I was about 21 or 22 when my mum passed away. And I have a huge family that depends on me.
According to him, to support his education, he took on several low-paying jobs.
“I want my story to inspire others to believe that if I can make it, there’s no reason anyone else can’t. There were times when I had to stay home for up to three weeks every term because I couldn’t pay school fees. I lost my university place because I couldn’t raise N20,000 in time; I had just two weeks to pay, but I wasn’t able to come up with the money, and that’s how I lost the admission.”
“I didn’t have anyone—no uncles, aunts, or godparents to turn to. It’s been nothing but God’s grace in my life”.
“I want people to look at my life and say if I can succeed then no one has an excuse to fail”.
