FIDA in Niger embarks on gender-based sensitization campaign to children remand home

The Niger State Chapter of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) has embarked on gender-based violence sensitization and enlightenment campaign to Children remand home.

The sensitization campaign is part of the ongoing sixteen day activism against gender based violence against women and girl-child.

Change of Name

Addressing the inmates at the Minna children remand home Wednesday, the chairperson of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), in Niger State, Barrister Bolanle Jibogun urged them to see their being in the home as the will of God.

She noted that they should not see their detention in the home as an outcast, but as a measure to reprimand them of the offences they committed against the law of the land.

According to the chairperson of school on FIDA,as youths that has brighter future, they should refrain themselves from any act that will be inimical to their future stressing the need for them to steer clear from engaging in any vices that will bring them back to the home.

Bolanle Jibogun Posited that FIDA as non-governmental agency saddled with the responsibility of protecting the right of women and girl-child as well as men against any forms of gender related violence decided to bring the campaign to their doorstep as part of the ongoing sixteen day activism against gender based violence (GBV). across the country

Explaining that the sixteen day activism against gender based violence (GBV), is annual event which cut across various non-governmental agencies,and community based Organization (CBO), Civil Society Organization,( CSO), as well as National Human Right Commission (NRHC) is aimed at enlighten the citizens on the legal consequences against all sorts of violence against women and girl-child.

She told the inmates that some of them already in detention at the remand home were involved in one form or violence or the other hence their arrest and detention by the court informing them the implication of their involvement in the crime that brought them to the remand home.

Jibogun assured them that FIDA and other relevant stakeholders in the justice system will review their cases with a view to ensuring speedy dispensation of their case in court.

The sensitization program was taken to the old people’s home and some food items and toiletries were donated to both homes.
