Taraba Governor’s sister shot by Police escort during gunmen attack

Taraba State Governor’s sister Atsi Kefas was reportedly shot by Police escort during an attack by unknown gunmen on Thursday.

She was said to have been accidently shot as Police encounter an attack, according to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication specializing in the Lake Chad region.

Reports said, the incident took place along Kente Road in Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State. Jumai, the governor’s mother, and Atsi were traveling when they were ambushed by gunmen.

The publication reported that a police officer assigned to escort the family “accidentally shot Atsi” while trying to repel the attackers.

In the aftermath of the attack, troops swiftly intervened, rescuing the victims and evacuating Jumai and Atsi Kefas from the scene using an air ambulance.

Atsi Kefas was rushed to the hospital for treatment. However, her current condition remains undisclosed at the time of filing this report.

Security forces reportedly recovered the vehicle used by the assailants. An empty magazine and passenger luggage were also found in the vehicle.
