Taraba governor, Ishaku tasks NCPC on spiritual content of pilgrimage
The Executive Governor of Taraba State,Arc. Darius Ishaku has tasked the Nigeria Christian Pilgrim Commission on the need to make Pilgrimage more spiritual.
He disclosed this today while playing host to a delegation from NCPC and church leaders in Taraba State in his official residence in Jalingo. He explained that it was the rich spiritual content of Christian pilgrimage that galvanised him into participating in the spiritual exercise.
According to the No1citizen of Taraba State, “It was the spirituality of Pilgrimage that made me become interested in Pilgrimage. ”
Governor Ishaku also stressed the importance of the NCPC agricultural skill acquisition programme in Israel which he described as very practical and laudable that should be continued as it would help to empower the youths.
He affirmed that by virtue of Rev Pam’s antecedent and pedigree he was confident that he would perform creditably well in his new position.
He charged him to use his position to refocus the Christians in Nigeria.In his words” I see you as a man that will turn Pilgrimage around”. He further advised that” any opportunity we get as Christians,lets develop it and make maximum use of it.”
Earlier, the NCPC boss, Rev.Yakubu Pam thanked him for his continuous support for Christian Pilgrimage and for uplifting the welfare and functionality of the state Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board.
Rev Pam averred that any state that is in peace with Jerusalem would continue to enjoy lasting peace.
The No 1 Christian Pilgrim Officer of the Federation solicited the support of the Governor in the area of sponsorship of intending Pilgrims which he according to him is “a divine call from God.”
He commended the giant strides of the Governor in critical infrastructure such as road construction and rural electrification.He equally applauded him on youth and women empowerment as well as effective security control.
The NCPC helmsman hinted that there was need to meet with the governors of Benue and Taraba to resolve the lingering crisis between the Jukuns and the Tivs.
He explained that a team of peace mediators had been constituted to meet with the two Governors to fashion out a road map that would reconcile the aggrieved parties.
The NCPC boss who is also the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria CAN 19 Northern States appealed to the Governor to forgive and see how he would work with his counterpart in Benue to resolve the ill blood between the Jukuns and the Tivs.
The Executive Secretary of NCPC was in the State on a one day sensitisation visit preparatory for the December general Pilgrimage exercise.
