A popular Nollywood actress, Ufuoma McDermott, has claimed that she was battling with chronic kidney disease for long due to painkiller abuse.

She gave this revelation in an interview with a popular media personality on Tuesday.

Ufuoma said she had migraines while growing up and consumed a lot of painkillers, stressing that she feels so stupid about it.

The thespian also advised the general public to prioritize their health.

She said, “My chronic kidney disease started from drug abuse first of all. I have been so swamped with what you call the hustle and I have not been talking care of myself and then I’d have a migraine and I am talking painkillers. I took strong painkillers and not the ordinary painkillers because I wanted the pain to go away.

“Chude, at some point, I had painkillers in my wallet. If people ask of painkillers, I always share them, and I was a stupid child. When I was in boarding school, whenever I’m going back to school, my mother buys my painkillers. When I was pregnant with my first child, everybody wanted to advise me because of the condition.

“I really wish everyone would understand the importance of health. My brother was diagnosed late on stage 4 of kidney disease and he goes straight into dialysis and has complications.

“I was diagnosed earlier, so I have lived on medication for almost 12 years now. When my brother I ran to my cardiologist. My parents were scared, thinking if this is genetic? We had to trace the kidney disease and we learned it was from drug abuse.

“I grew up with migraines, headaches and eyeaches, and I never wore my glasses because they made me look like a geek. I’d take painkillers for my migraine. “
