Court of Appeal upturns CCT judgment on Ex-CJN Onnoghen, restores seized bank accounts
Reprieve came the way of the former Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Walter Samuel Nkanu Onnoghen as the Court of Appeal on Monday nullified the Code of Conduct, CCT judgment seizing his funds and assets.
He was also discharged and acquitted of false asset declaration as previously ruled by the Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal, Justice Danladi Umar.
Delivering judgment, Justice Abba Bello Mohammed also ruled that four bank accounts of the former CJN which he had forfeited to the government be returned to him.
Speaking on the judgement, the counsels of the former CJN, Adegboyega Awomolo SAN and Ogwu James Onoja SAN, expressed happiness over the ruling of the appellate court.
Onnoghen was convicted on April 18, 2019 by Justice Umar Yakubu Danladi of the Code of Conduct Tribunal.
Onnoghen was the CJN during the administration of the former President Muhammadu Buhari.
