The administration of Kogi State Governor, Ododo Usman Ahmed has rekindled hope for citizens in the State in the past few months he assumed office, if the laudable developments and interventions were anything to go by. One cannot feign ignorance of the rebirth of governance after an era of ignominy and this has no doubt brought about feelings of good times to come.

Of particular issue is the pendency of bursary award for Law Students of Kogi State origin which the governor promised to pay in May, 2024. While his Excellency should be reminded of his promise, after the students have filled the necessary form and were excited after they were promised of bursary payment, we like to also impress on the Kogi State Scholarship Board to without delay raise the issue before his Excellency to make good their promises.

Change of Name

The payment of bursary to Law Students would go a long way to mitigating the difficulties and educational challenges faced by students who are currently studying in various Law School campuses across the country. There is no doubt that the major challenges faced by law students is the cost of living, educational materials, transportation and hike in school fees, hence, the governor who is known for fulfilling his promises will do well to offset the bursary award to the Law School students.

It may interest his Excellency to know that Law students from other States of the Federation have been enjoying their bursary award, even States that cannot compete with Kogi State in terms of economic viability, thus making the situation looks like Kogi State Law Students are less mortals whose government is not interested in their educational development.

The Law Students are however hopeful and excited that Governor Ododo recently ordered payment of WAEC fees for senior secondary school students across the State. This is not only heart-warming, but a proof that the governor is someone who works his talk and sooner than later, it could be the turn of Law Students to be paid their bursary award as promised by His Excellency.

Being conscious of the new era therefore, we appeal to the Governor to use his good office and come to the aid of the Students some of who come from poor family background and are stranded in raising funds to complete their law education to be called to the Bar.
