EndBadGovernance: Kano Governor, Yusuf behind arrest of young protesters – Northern Youth Coordinator alleges

As reactions continue to trail the arraignment of young boys who were arrested in the course of EndBadGovernance protest in July this year, the National Northern Youth Merger group Coordinator, Comrade Mujahid Zaitawa has alleged that Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf was behind the arrest of 76 of them.

The youth Coordinator in a statement he made available to CAPITAL POST in Abuja on Saturday stated that the governor was complicit in the incarceration of the boys, explaining that it was the governor that ordered their arrest during the protest in Kano.

Change of Name

The statement quoted Mujahid to have spoken at the prison when he visited the inmates with food and water, begged the young lads to be good representatives of Kano.

He promised to take care of their education alongside other prominent indigenes of Kano when they are released from detention.

Zaitawa also begged President Bola Tinubu to release the young boys within 48 hours because they are considered as his children, while he blamed Kano Governor for being behind the protest that led to the destruction of of properties worth billions of naira and loss of lives.

He also blamed some governors of the north for been responsible for insecurity and poverty in the region.

Meanwhile the Attorney General and Minister of Justice in a statement he issued after the minors appeared for arraignment in the Justice Obiora Egwuatu-led Federal High Court on Friday, stated that his attention has been drawn to the detention and prosecution of the minors who were involved in EndBadGovernance protest.

He stated in the statement that he has ordered the Director of Public Prosecutor to make the case file available for his office to take further action.

The AGF wrote: “It has just come to my notice that the police have arraigned those arrested in connection with the endbad governance violent protest in court for various offences including treason.

“There are some issues my office will need to look into regarding the matter to enable me take an informed decision.

“I am aware that the court has remanded the defendants in detention centres and adjourned the case to January.

“It is not within my power to vary the order of the court remanding the defendants in detention centres and adjourning the case to January. I have, however, directed the Nigeria Police to transfer the casefile to my office and hand over same to the Director of Public Prosecution of the Federation (DPPF) tomorrow, Saturday 2nd November, 2024.

“I have further directed the DPPF to immediately put machinery in motion for consideration of the court to bring the adjournment date forward (an earlier date).”
