Zamfara LG Election: NNPP raises concern over SIEC’s illegality

Ahead of Local Government Council election in Zamfara State, North West Nigeria, the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, in the State, has raised concern over perceived injustice that may cast doubt on credibility of the election is held.

The National Chairman of the party, Alhaji Sani Yusuf Danmasani in a statement on Sunday A statement said the processes of the Zamfara State Independent Electoral Commission, ZASIEC, were associated with illegalities.

“We at NNPP are concerned with the level of preparations of the ZASIEC on the election right from the fixing of the election date of November 16”.

Danmasani expresses concern that the NNPP and other political parties were not carried along in the preparation for the election, particularly the election date and other requirements.

He noted that the electoral body is supposed to give three months’ notice as required by law instead of one month.
“Giving one month’s notice for the conduct of the local government election clearly demonstrates injustice and illegality in the activities of the electoral body”, he said.

The NNPP National Vice Chairman said the local government election in Zamfara would be nothing but appointment instead of allowing people to exercise their civic right of electing leaders of their choice.
