Tragedy struck in Kogi community of Abocho in Dekina Local Government in Kogi East Senatorial District when thunder strike killed a 70-year-old man identified as Malam Abu Yusuf.
The incident happened at about 5:40 pm on Thursday during a heavy down pour that lasted for hours.
The tragedy sent panics across locals in communities around the area, while the people of Abocho began to lament the killing of the man they described as “nice and cool headed.”
A resident of Abocho, who identified as Dansoho Sulaiman, speaking with journalists in the aftermath of the incident the man was healthy despite his age and was going about his farm and other activities before the tragedy struck.
Narrating what happened, Sulaiman said: “a close friend to the family confirmed the death. There was a heavy. Rainfall followed by Thunderstrike. It was after one of the thunderstorms that his family members noticed that he fell down”.
“All effort to revive him proved abortive”, throwing his family into confusion and wailing.
