Former governorship candidate of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) in Ekiti State, Erelu Kemi Elebute-Halle, has applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for re-investing recovered looted funds into the economy.

Elebute who was also ADP’s Deputy National Chairman also believed that the country will improve under Tinubu’s leadership.

Change of Name

On Thursday, Elebute-Halle, along with over 120,000 new members from across the six geopolitical zones, officially joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja.

Speaking to journalists after being received by the APC National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the new decampees explained that Tinubu’s decision to invest looted funds into the student loan scheme would benefit Nigerians for years to come.

They also described the initiative
as a policy that would positively impact Nigerians for generations to come.

Commenting on why she left the ADP, Elebute-Halle, Elebute said her switch from ADP to APC, along with her supporters, was driven by the President’s key economic policies. She expressed confidence that these policies would help the country grow.

“One of the reasons we joined the APC is because Tinubu is the first President to re-invest looted funds into the economy. We have never seen, in the history of this country, a situation where students are given education loans like we are seeing now.

“If you look at all the government’s policies, they take time. You cannot expect to be pregnant, give birth, and have the baby start crawling all in one day. It’s going to be a process of metamorphosis.”

According to her, there is no gain without pain, adding that painful decisions like the removal of fuel subsidies, among others, were necessary for the administration to service the country’s loans”, she said.

She further added, “In the North-East, North-West, and North-Central alone, we have more than 70,000 people joining the APC with us, while in the South-South and South-East, we have over 50,000 people who are ready to be part of this progressive movement. So, it’s like a facelift for the APC.

“We are joining the APC to be a progressive partner to Mr. President and his Renewed Hope Agenda. We believe that the policies of the current government will eventually succeed.”

Earlier, while receiving the new members into the APC, the party’s National Chairman, Ganduje, commended Elebute-Halle and her supporters for their belief in President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and for their decision to join the ruling party.

Ganduje assured the decampees of equal opportunities within the party, promising that they would be fully involved in all activities of the APC.
