Striking workers of Arik Air grounds operations over non payment of salaries
Striking workers of Arik Air on Monday abandoned customers of the airline at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa, Rivers State.
Staff of the airline insisted that they would not call off strike until the management has addressed their plight of non-payment of salaries, unremitted pensions and sundry wage issues in the firm.
Some stranded passengers left the terminal in anger after watching protesters displaying placards of various inscriptions, while some passengers purchased tickets of other airliners to travel at all costs.
The management is yet to give an official statement on the matter just as the Covid-19 protocols makes access to the airport difficult for newsmen.
CAPITAL POST reports that Arik Air management wrote to the Minister of Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika seeking his intervention following the Union’s strike warning handed to it on Thursday last week.
Arik Air management insisted that there was no need for the strike as workers haven’t exhausted opportunities for negotiation.
