Ideato community threatens to recall lawmaker Ugochinyere, honours Governor Uzodimma
Some people in Ideato autonomous community have threatened to recall the Federal lawmaker representing their constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Ikenga Ugochinyere.
The community members expressed this sentiment during a grand ceremony in Umuchima, Ideato South, where political stakeholders gathered to honor the Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma.
The event was organized to show appreciation for Governor Uzodimma’s intervention in addressing a severe erosion issue that had threatened to isolate the constituency from the rest of the state.
However, some community members accused Ugochinyere of pursuing a personal agenda and neglecting his primary responsibilities. They also criticized him, claiming that he had overstepped his bounds and should be recalled from his position.
The Ideato South Council of Traditional Rulers, led by their chairman, Eze Ewuzie, welcomed the governor’s delegation and expressed their gratitude on behalf of the community.
Constituents and community leaders commended Governor Uzodimma for promptly awarding the erosion control project to Craneburg, a reputable construction company, ensuring that work began swiftly. They noted that although the constituency had previously produced a governor, a senator, and several federal lawmakers, it was only under Uzodimma’s administration that decisive action was taken to address the longstanding erosion problem.
Stakeholders at the event praised the governor’s dedication to the well-being of the people, emphasizing that he had no personal political ambitions at the moment and that his actions demonstrated a commitment to good governance and impartial leadership.
The event also became a platform for voicing dissatisfaction with Hon. Ugochinyere Micheal Ikeaga, the current representative of the constituency in the National Assembly. Community leaders accused him of neglecting the needs of the constituency while focusing on personal political battles, including unwarranted attacks on Governor Uzodimma.
During the ceremony, a formal motion was introduced to recall Hon. Ikeaga. The motion, led by Hon. Okechukwu Udenze, the representative for Ideato North in the Imo State House of Assembly, received widespread support from community members and political leaders.
Notable dignitaries at the event included Hon. Ijeoma Arodiogbu, Southeast Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC); Hon. Ikechukwu Umeh, Imo APC Organizing Secretary; Hon. Nkechi Ugwu, Commissioner for Women Affairs; and the executive chairmen of Ideato North and South, Hon. Chinonso Okparaeke and Hon. Okechukwu Okwara, alongside vice chairmen and the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) leaders from both areas.
The leaders of Ideato Federal Constituency encouraged the community to remain united and focused on progress, working together for the continued development of the region.
