INEC dismisses APC’s BVAS smuggling allegations as baseless
The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Edo State, has responded to allegations made by the All Progressives Congress, APC,regarding the alleged smuggling of Bimodal Voter Accreditation System, BVAS, machines and voters’ registers into its office.
In a statement by the Resident Electoral Commissioner,REC, Dr. Anugbum Onuoha, dismissed the claims, describing them as “baseless, unsubstantiated, and entirely without merit.”
According to INEC, a thorough investigation into the APC’s claims found no evidence of foul play, with Dr. Onuoha stressing that the electoral materials, including BVAS machines and voters’ registers, remain uncompromised. “At no time were the BVAS machines or voters’ registers compromised or unlawfully accessed by any political party or external entity,” he stated.
Dr. Onuoha reiterated INEC’s unwavering commitment to ensuring free, fair, and credible elections in Edo State and Nigeria as a whole.
He further assured the public that INEC is fully compliant with the recent court directive for the inspection of electoral materials.
“We are prepared to facilitate this process, ensuring transparency and adherence to the rule of law,” he added.
INEC has urged all political parties, particularly the APC, to avoid actions that could undermine public confidence in the electoral system, as the commission remains committed to neutrality and the preservation of democracy.
