“World Post Day is celebrated annually on October 9th to commemorate the anniversary of the Universal Postal Union’s establishment. As a global organization, the UPU has membership from all countries worldwide, founded in 1874 in Bern, Switzerland”.

“Postal services have a rich history, dating back to ancient times. In Nigeria, for example, the first post office was established in 1852 under British colonial administration. On the Plateau, the inaugural post office opened its doors in 1913.”

He highlighted the transformative impact of technological advancements on the postal industry.

“The communication landscape has undergone a significant shift, Personal letters, once the backbone of our operations, have decreased substantially. However, business letters have experienced a remarkable increase.

He noted that rise of digital platforms, including WhatsApp, email, and online messaging services, has dramatically altered the way individuals and businesses interact.

“Despite this shift, business letters remain an essential component of professional communication, often requiring physical documentation. In many sectors, physical documents remain indispensable. Banking transactions, for instance, frequently require signed paperwork, even after online interactions.

“Even after utilizing online platforms, physical documents are still necessary,”

The Postal Manager disclosed that NIPost have embraced innovation and diversifying services which will be critical to their success.

“The Jos Postal Branch is poised to navigate this changing landscape, leveraging technology to enhance services and meet the growing demand for business correspondence”.

“Today, as we celebrate World Post Day, I want to take a moment to recognize the vital role that postal services play in our lives and communities. This day is not just about mail delivery; it’s about connection, communication, and the reliable exchange of information”.

He further added that in the age of rapid digital transformation, the postal service remains a cornerstone of daily interactions.

“It bridges distances, supports businesses, and ensures that important messages reach their destinations”.
