Rivers LGA election: Crisis could escalate into national instability if unaddressed – Methodist Bishop
Methodist Bishop, Dr. Sunday Onuoha, has warned that the ongoing crisis in Rivers State could escalate into a national crisis if urgent action is not taken.
Bishop Onuoha disclosed this in a statement made available to CAPITAL POST on Tuesday.
Speaking on the tension between Rivers State Governor Sim Fubara and the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, Bishop Onuoha called on citizens of conscience across the country to step up and defend Nigeria’s democracy.
He also urged elder statesmen to intervene and speak truth to power, cautioning those fueling political instability in the state. The cleric added that failure to address the situation could lead to severe consequences.
It is worth noting that Fubara recently held local government elections in Rivers State without the involvement of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).
Under his administration, the Action People’s Party (APP) secured 22 out of 23 local government areas, while the Action Alliance claimed the remaining seat.
The election followed a public clash between Wike and Fubara over control of the state’s political structure.
