Reps Speaker SA on Youths Matters Hon. Lamir empowered over 30 women in Dadin Kowa Jos.
Special Assistant to the Speaker, House of Representatives, Abuja, Hon. Lamir Umar Ibrahim has empowered over 30 women in Dadin Kowa Community, Jos South Local Government of Plateau State by providing cash donations to boost their businesses.
The gesture, which benefited over 30 Christian and Muslim women, was motivated by Ibrahim’s personal experience. Growing up, these women, popularly known as “Akara women,” fed him and assisted him.
Ibrahim recalled how these women supported him during his school days, and now, he wants to uplift their living standards and enhance their businesses.
” This initiative is part of my efforts, complementing my Boss the Speaker, House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas.
“Growing up in the streets of Daɗin Kowa, Jos, we often relied on “Kosai da Doya,” popularly known as “Kosh and Dosh,” for breakfast or lunch, depending on the time of day. This affordable combination offered tremendous value for minimal expense.
“The women selling these street foods play a vital role in our communities. Their importance becomes evident when they’re absent, and we’re left without their services. Considering their generosity and the harsh conditions they endure – heat, smoke, and long hours – it’s surprising their businesses remain sustainable.
“Beyond their entrepreneurial spirit, these women are caregivers, providing for their children’s meals and education. It’s time we empower these unsung heroes who made our childhood memories affordable and memorable!
“Alhamdulillah, the moment has arrived! Our empowerment program is expanding to support these community mother figures, providing them with necessary capital to maintain their small businesses amidst economic challenges.
Mama Queen Inajineme, popularly known as Gladys, 64 years beamed with joy as she received N50,000 from Hon. Lamir’s gesture.
Though she’s retired from her akara business, the donation will ease her economic struggles.
‘I appreciate Lamir’s kindness,’ she said. ‘He remembered us former akara sellers, regardless of religion or tribe. God will bless him and elevate him further.’
Hajiya Maimuna added, ‘I had no food, but Hon. Lamir’s generosity will now provide for me.’
Community leader Alhaji Iliyasu Aliyu Suleiman and Hon. Rose Adams praised Hon. Lamir’s efforts, calling him a true leader who cares for the masses.
