Plateau LG Elections: LP is contesting all positions, says Reps member
The member representing Barkin Ladi/Riyom Federal Constituency of Plateau State on the platform of labour Party (LP) Hon. Fom Dalyop Chollom has disclosed that Labour Party is contesting all positions from Chairman to Councilorship in the fourth coming local government election in the State.
Hon. Chollom disclosed the position of the party on Tuesday while addressing a Press Conference at the NUJ Press Centre Jos.
According to him, “None of our candidates have stepped down for anybody. Thus, it is very appalling to hear such unfounded information being disseminated to the general public which is hereby vehemently refuted.”
The Federal lawmaker also frowned at the vandalization of their Billboards/Banners and other campaign materials across the State stressing that the development is undemocratic, uncivil, and hereby condemnable.
He challenged the PLateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC) to strictly adhere to its statutory mandate of conducting free, fair, and transparent elections that will be accepted to all parties in the state.
He said Governor Caleb Mutfwang administration in Plateau State has human-oriented policies since his assumption of office on May 29, 2023, which have been all-inclusive, irrespective of tribes, religion, and party affiliation.
“I must admit that your efforts towards fostering a harmonious environment, through good policies and strategies that promote interfaith understanding, community engagement, social cohesion, and, above all, peaceful coexistence, have been truly remarkable”.
Hon. Chollom added that Governor Mutfwang’s composition of the members of the Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC)under the leadership of Hon. Plangji Daniel Chishak has boosted the confidence of all political parties that PLASIEC is capable of delivering credible elections.
“I note with great concern the primacy given to a particular political party, as against its statutory mandate to create a level playing ground for free, fair elections in Plateau State, which is very unthinkable.
“PLASIEC should strictly adhere to its statutory mandate of conducting free, fair, and transparent elections and uphold the laid-down standards in order to fulfill the assurances of the Executive Governor regarding the State-wide exercise, which should reflect the will of the masses”.
However, the PLASIEC Chairman Plangji Chishak while addressing Stakeholders meeting said the commission is committed to creating stable democratic institutions at the grassroots level aligns perfectly with Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s vision.
According to him, they are aware of the historical context that has shaped perceptions of State Independent Electoral Commissions (SIECs) in Nigeria as citizens have lost confidence due to past irregularities adding that they are ready to rewrite this narrative.
