He was later thrown into prison by the former President Olusegun Obasanjo after he succeeded the late General Abacha through Democratic election in 1999.

Speaking at a Summit organized by Youths from the 19 northern States and held in Uranium Hotel, Kaduna, the National President of New Nigeria Movement Alhaji Mustapha Bala Getso said following the failure of successive administrations especially from the All Progressive Congress APC and the Peoples Democratic Party PDP, It became evidently clear that the solution to Nigeria’s problems lies outside the two parties hence, the need for a collective effort in determining the most suitable person the entire Youths can support.

“I have known Major Almustapha for a long time although, I wasn’t very close to him but I have come to realize that he meant well for Nigeria, his experience will be a valuable asset for Nigeria”. He said.

Similarly, the former Kaduna State Gubernatorial candidate of the PRP in 2023 elections, Mallam Hayatudeen Makarfi also believed that the present crop of leaders have failed noting that the time is ripe for the youths to come together and follow a leader like Major Almustapha whom they believe has what it takes to salvage Nigeria.

“We all know what happened when people sold there votes for a loaf of bread and spaghetti, it is very unfortunate and that is why we need a genuine change and it must start from us the youths” he said.

Similarly, Dr. Usman Musa, Comrade Fahad Umar and Associate Professor Dahiru Muhammed Sani among others said the Youths can make a difference if they come together and rally round a credible man of integrity like Major Almustapha whose experience they believe can bring succor to the masses.

The meeting had in attendance youths ok including women from all the states of the North.
