Reps introduce bill to amend Federal Universities of Technology Act, scales first reading
Nigeria’s House of Representatives has introduced a bill to amend the Federal Universities of Technology Act and passed first reading on the floor of Green Chambers on Thursday at the National Assembly.
The bill titled: “A Bill for an Act to amend the Federal Universities of Technology Act (Amendment) Bill, 2024 (HB. 1684) which was sponsored by the Majority Leader, Professor Julius Ihonvbere, Hon. Sani Nazifi and Hon. Paul Sunday Nnamchi seeks to provide a legal framework for the establishment of Federal University of Technology,
Babura, Jigawa State, for the promotion and development of University education in Nigeria.
The proposed amendment seeks to make comprehensive provisions for the management and administration of University and other related matters, adding that the University of Technology will offer technologically related courses for students, so that upon graduation, they would have been highly skilled to create job for themselves.
CAPITAL POST recalled that the Act was signed into law in 2021 which has not been implemented till date, a development that gave reasons to introduce an amendment bill.
Meanwhile, the bill is now awaiting to be debated at the second reading after which it will be referred to the relevant committee for a public hearing.
