Controversy trails Plateau Youth Council election as aspirants demand nullificatio
A group of aspirants from the Plateau State Youth Council (PYC) elections are crying foul over the electoral process, alleging gross irregularities and illegality.
It would be recalled that the PYC election had on Wednesday produced Com. Panan Dapar as State Chairman, Monica Noro Pam Vice chairman and Napoleon Nimyel as Secretary General amongst others.
But, the Leader of the group Comrade Peter Nansok Peter during a Press Conference at the NUJ Press Centre Jos demanded the nullification of the elections held on September 25, 2024, and the dissolution of the electoral committee.
Nansok cited irregularities during the elections to include; deployment of armed men to intimidate aspirants and members, deliberate exclusion of local government chairmen from the electoral process at least 10 Local Government Areas LGAs.
They also noted Lack of transparency in candidate and delegate selection and said there is a reports of elections not held in more than 8 LGAs of the State.
The aspirants claim these actions undermine the fundamental principles of fairness, transparency, and accountability and lost faith in the Electoral Committee’s ability to conduct free and fair elections.
The group demands immediate nullification of the election conducted on September 25, 2024.
