NCoS set to address impact of flood disaster on prison facility after escape of criminals

Following the escape of over 200 inmates including Boko Haram commanders and fighters, the management of the Nigerian Correctional Service, NCoS said, it would address the impact of flood on Maiduguri Medium Security Custodial center.

Maiduguri, capital of Borno State in the North Eastern Nigeria suffered severe flood due to the collapse of Alo Dam in Konduga Local Government Area of the state.

Change of Name

In a press statement by the head of the Media and Public Relation Officer of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Umar Abubakar Danlami ACS, and made available to CAPITAL POST in Minna, Tuesday, said the Service would work tirelessly to address the devastating impact.

“The Nigerian Correctional Service, (NCoS), is working tirelessly to address the devastating impact of the recent flooding on our facilities in Maiduguri, particularly the Medium Security Custodial center,

“The unfortunate incident is a natural disasters caused by the overflow and collapse of the Alau Dam in Kondugal Local Government Area”

Abubakar Danlami noted that as the Service is responsible for the safety and safekeeping of inmates, he assured the public that necessary measure has been taken to ensure the safety of the inmates.

Among the measure taken, according to the head of the Public Relations unit of the service, include the evacuation of the inmates to a safer facility, to ensure smooth operation and to collaborate with sister Security and relevant agencies towards providing Support and assistance to those affected

The Public Relations Officer could not confirm the escape of over 200 inmates as widely reported, but said, “contrary to initial reports, the officers and men of the command are working round the clock to ensure a smooth and secure transfer process”

While appreciating the support and guidance of the Vice President Kashim Shettima visit to Maiduguri to assess the situation, Umar Danlami Abubakar assured that the service will continue updating the public on the further development.

Assuring that the NCoS is committed to maintaining order and ensuring public safety during and after this challenging time.
