Civil Defence operatives arrest vandals, recover cables, items worth N5m
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Federal Capital Territory Command has arrested vandals of infrastructure worth over N5 million in Abuja.
Speaking at a press briefing on Monday, the commandant of FCT NSCDC, Olusola Odumosu, said a total number of 13 vandals of critical infrastructure were arrested in an operation by the Corps.
He disclosed that the criminals were arrested between 7 and 9 September, 2024 for vandalizing streetlight cables, billboards, armoured electrical cables and iron rods across various parts of the FCT city centre.
He said: “Following intense surveillance and patrols, as well as a tip-off, the intelligence personnel working with the Critical National Assets and Infrastructure Department combed various parts of the city and arrested the 13 suspects which according to their estimate, the infrastructure is worth N5 million.
“The economic value of the vandalised infrastructure is estimated at five million naira only.”
He said a range of stolen materials such as motorcycles, shovels, armoured cables, billboards and iron rods were recovered by the operatives.
Odumosu stated that the selling points have also been discovered, hence, the Command will go after the buyers.
