25 dead, scores abducted as bandits carry out deadly attack on Shiroro community in Niger State

Rampaging gang of armed bandits in the early hours of Saturday the 25th August 2024 wreaked unprecedented havock in Angwan Maigiro community of Shiroro and Rafi Local Government area of Niger State killing dozens of locals.

The gun men were said to have in their large numbers invaded the community on motorcycles killing the villagers and catered away large number of cattles.

Most of the victims were working on their farmlands when the deadly armed men took them unaware and on arrival they started shooting from different directions at the end a total of twenty five villagers were killed.

CAPITAL POST reliably gathered that the gunmen had earlier abducted thirty seven villagers, mostly women and children from the village and carted away their farm products and cattles.

It was further gathered that most of the victims were earlier chased away from their communities and relocated to internally Displaced Camp (IDP), in a nearby Community Primary school

Already, as a result of the deadly activities of these armed bandits, many of the locals, mostly women, children have relocated and abandoned their communities for fear of further attacks on them.

The Acting Governor of Niger State Comrade Yakubu Garba has paid a condolence visit to Angwan Maigiro community to commensurate with the villagers over the deadly attack on the community.

During the visit, the Acting Governor had an interaction with members of the community and also assessed the situation and sympathized with them over the deadly attack.

In an interview with Journalists shortly after the interaction, Comrade Yakubu Garba,assured that the security agencies will carry out a thorough investigation on the attack and report back to his office for necessary action.

Observing that the Agricultural revolution of the Present administration in the state will be undermined as Farmers are being chased out of their communities as a result of the incessant activities of armed bandits.

The Acting Governor, however, assured that the government is doing everything humanly possible to change the narrative and tame the tide of Insecurity in the state.

While sympathising with the families of the bereaved, Comrade Yakubu, urged them to take solace and prayed for the repose souls to rest in perfect peace.
