Kogi Governorship: Names of Supreme Court Justices to decide Muri vs Ododo judgement emerge

Ahead of Friday, 23rd August, 2024 Supreme Court judgement in Kogi State Governorship election between Muritala Yakubu Ajaka of the Social Democratic Party, SDP and Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo of the All Progressives Congress, names of five panel of justices to decide the judgement has emerged.

On Monday, the Supreme Court declined a request through a motion filed by lawyers for the Social Democratic Party to constitute a full panel that will determine his appeal.

Change of Name

On Wednesday, the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Hon. Justice Olukayode Ariwoola in a signed document sighted by CAPITAL POST indicated that the justices have been appointed. They are: Hon. Justice Mohammed Lawal Garba, Hon. Justice Ibrahim Mohammed Musa Saulawa, Hon. Justice Tijjani Abubakar, Hon. Justice Abubakar Sadiq Umar, and Hon. Justice Mohammed Baba Idris.

Friday’s Supreme Court judgement will put to rest the protracted legal battle between the SDP and APC governorship election in Kogi State as decision over the November 19 election can no longer be appealed by the losing party.

Meanwhile, in a statement signed by the Director, New Media/Spokesman for Muri/Sam Campaign Council, Mr Davies Ijele on Thursday, said all party supports and democrats have been invited to show solidarity with SDP at the Supreme Court premises on Friday 23rd August, 2024.

Part of the statement read: “We cordially invite all democracy advocates and supports of Murital Yakubu Ajaka to the highly anticipated Supreme Court verdict that will influence our constitution and democracy regarding the use of BVAS at 2pm tomorrow.

“All democracy enthusiasts are welcome to attend. Muritala Yakubu Ajaka eagerly anticipates your presence tomorrow.”
