Ex-President of the Senate, Lawan donates N25 million to flood victims in Yobe
Relief came the way of flood victims over the weekend in Yobe State as the former President of the 9th Senate, Dr Ahmad Lawan donated the sum of N25 million.
Lawan, who represents Yobe South Senatorial District donated the amount when he paid a visit to Nguru and Karasuwa Local Government Areas to assess the extent of damage caused by recent flooding.
Nguru, a town severely devastated by flood got N20 million, while the sum of N50 million went to displaced persons in Karasuwa local government area, respectively.
In a statement by the Media Adviser to the Ex-President of the Senate, Dr Ezrel Tabiowo on Sunday, Lawan urged the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA); and Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (YOSEMA) to, quickly address their challenges.
He commended ongoing efforts by both agencies to provide assistance to the victims.
Senator Lawan appealed to the Federal Government to provide sustainable solutions that include constructing drainage systems and embankments to control water flow to mitigate the impact of future disasters in parts of the country affected by flooding.
