Abducted Kogi Varsity Students: Kidnappers demand N50m ransom
After one week of the abduction of two students of Kogi State University, Kabba, their abductors have contacted their parents demanding for the sum of N50 million ransom.
The parents, CAPITAL POST gathered are peasant farmers and hardly afford N50 million ransom for the release of their loved ones.
The students were abducted at a spot notorious for kidnappers operation, the same spot where the Caretaker Committee Chairman of Kabba/Bunu Council, Hon. Dare Michaeal and his three aides were abducted on August 2, 2024.
The LG was reportedly released on health conditions as he could not walk with the kidnappers while they were being taken into the bush, but his three aides who were taken into the bush still remain with them till now.
In a separate demand for ransom on Monday, kidnappers asked parents of the Chairman’s three aides to pay N100 million, but have slashed to N50 million on Friday 9th August, 2024 for their release.
A traumatized father of one of the students, Mr Shadrach Idowu Babalola said his son, Isaac Babalola, a student of the Public Administration department has been with the kidnappers for a week now.
He said the kidnappers have been adamant about their demands, “Anytime they (kidnappers) called and ask for N50 million and we tell them we don’t have such amount, they tell us we are not serious about the lives of our wards.
“The last time they called and we told them what we could afford, they told us point blank to take the money and buy Maggi to make soup for ourselves.”
