A Video has gone viral with claims that staff of the Fidelity Bank in Kaduna were trapped in their office during the #Hunger/EndBadGovernance protest. As media platform that observed the protest across the country, the report generated much concern initially that brought about curiosity in search for fact about the claim.

Though, hoodlums stormed the bank in guise of protesters and actually attacked the facility and all cars parked in the premises which were believed to belong to members of Fidelity Bank staff were vandalized.

The video is accompanied by the following text: “Fidelity Bank kaduna. I learned some staff are still trapped there…Is dis protest or looting…Is fidelity bank Asiwaju property or govt owned”.

The attack claim was later aired on Channels Television and other national electronic and print media and was also confirmed by the spokesman of the Kaduna State Police Command, Mansir Hassan, in a phone conversation.

Clearly, attackers are hoodlums and criminals and not protesters if the damage done to the financial institution was anything to ponder about.

A look at the building showed intent of the hoodlums to loot the bank which is located at Tudun Wada in Kaduna South Local Government Area of the state in the metropolis.

Though the hoodlums forcefully entered into the bank during the protest and carted away some valuables while also destroying some vehicles parked within the bank premises, further checks showed that the bank team did not play to the gallery as they complied with safety instructions by locking the building and stayed away on the day of protest.

The staff complied with security measures as they probably were working from home while digital services were opened to bank customers to transact their businesses from their own end point.

Kaduna State governor, Senator Uba Sani visited the bank at Tudun Wada, as well as the KADIPA and KASTELEA offices after the attack and expressed dismay over the incident.

It has not yet been confirmed if there was arrest in connection with the attack as at Thursday, 8th August, 2024
