Nigeria’s Power Minister, Adebayo Adelabu said electricity generation has grown to a 3-year high of 5,105 megawatts as of July 27, 2024.

The Minister gave this disclosure at the inaugural meeting of the Inter-Ministerial Power Sector Working Group in Abuja on Wednesday, explaining that the 5,105mw electricity generation represents a significant increase from the previously recorded 4,000mw.

According to him, the administration intended to achieve 6,000mw of electricity generation and transmission by December 2024.

“Just a few days ago, on July 27, we successfully generated and transmitted 5,105MW of power, the highest in the last three years. This is an improvement from the previous capacity of around 4,000MW or below.

“Our goal is to reach a significant milestone of generating and transmitting 6,000MW by December,” he emphasized.

The most recent information from Generation Companies, GenCos, indicates that Nigeria’s electricity decreased by 668.5mw from 5,105mw to a peak of 4,436.50mw as of August 5, 2024.
