Gana: Ortom, military differs on gang leader’s death

Benue most wanted criminal and gang leader, Terwase Akwaza, alias Gana was announced killed by the military.

It was earlier reported by CAPITAL POST on Tuesday that he might have been arrested by the military and taken into custody.

However, the latest reports by the military maintained that he was killed in a gun battle with operatives.

But, Governor Samuel Ortom while speaking on Channels Television expressed surprise, alleging that he was seized from a convoy of repentant militants who were on their way to the Government House for a peace meeting with him.

“Gana and other repentant militants with arms and ammunition were in a convoy to Benue People’s House, having been granted amnesty by the government, but he was seized by the military.

According to the governor, “he was abducted from a government convoy in Gboko by the soldiers.”

Meanwhile, Commander of the Four Special Forces command, Doma Local Government Area, Brigadier General Maude Ali Gadzama, confirmed Gana was gunned down in a battle with operatives.

Earlier resorts also indicated that the late gang leader, Terwase Akwaza, alias Gana alongside 172 boys have surrendered in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue State.
