Plateau Group distances self from planned protest
The Plateau State Progressive Youth Alliance has announced its decision to disengage from the planned national protest scheduled for August 1, 2024.
The group, which had initially called for the protest to address various national concerns, cited safety concerns and the potential for the protest to be hijacked as reasons for their decision.
Addressing a press conference in Jos on Friday , Spokesperson of the group Comrade David Yakubu James explained that the group had consulted with various stakeholders before arriving at the decision to disengaged from the Planned protest.
He emphasized that their commitment to ending bad governance and hardship in Nigeria remains unwavering, but they will seek alternative solutions that benefit all Nigerians.
The group had initially planned to join the protest against issues such as bad governance, untold hardship, price control, fuel subsidy, insecurity, international loans, and high tertiary institution fees.
They However said their concerns is about the potential for the protest to be hijacked by ethnic and religious groups, as well as safety concerns, led to the decision to call off the protest.
The Plateau State Progressive Youth Alliance appealed to the federal government and governments at all levels to address the suffering and hardship faced by Nigerians.
They expressed gratitude to the public, media, and security agencies for their support and understanding.
