“I will never denigrate women, I will rather pray for God to uplift them” – Akpabio apologises to Natasha over night club comment
Senate President, Godswill Akpabio has apologised to Senator representing Kogi Central Senatorial District, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan over “we are not in the night club”, comment.
Akpabio said, he jokingly passed the comment, but social media took it to town as if he intended it.
Akpabio had said during plenary on Tuesday: “I will not intentionally denigrate any woman and I always pray that God will uplift women.
“Distinguished Senator Natasha, I want to apologise to you.
“The interest shown in the social media shows that we have enemies. I felt I should tender a public apology to you. I do not mean any harm. People should concentrate on things that will move this country forward.
“Social Media handlers should practice with decorum. We wont out of anger regulate social media.”
He said he will never disrespect women even as he is married to one wife.
Last week, the Kogi wanted to speak on the floor when she had not been permitted in line with parliamentary rule, and the Senate President said: “Natasha sit down, we are not in a night club.”
The comment generated reactions across media platforms hence, forcing the Senate President to apologise during Tuesday’s plenary.
