The Vice Chancellor of the National Open University of Nigeria, NOUN, Prof. Olufemi Peters, said students of the institution are eligible to apply for student loan from the Nigeria Education Loan Fund, NELFUND, contrary to misinformation making the round.

He said, NOUN has addressed the grey areas and has cleared the hindrances that would have stopped its students from accessing loan.

He expressed concerns over misleading statements and comments suggesting that NOUN students are ineligible to participate in the loan, stressing that the misinformation started from the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB which has been sufficiently addressed.

“There was a misrepresentation by JAMB on that matter, but they have since corrected it. Director of Admissions or even JAMB Registrar can attest to that.

“We always register our students with JAMB every semester, and they all possess JAMB registration number. In addition to that, we strictly follow the same admission processes with other conventional institutions.

“So, I can say for sure that our students are captor in JAMB database which is major criteria for accessing the loan. NOUN are eligible to enjoy the student loan scheme because the initial challenges that was caused by JAMB has been corrected.”

CAPITAL POST recalled that the management of NELFUND stated that NOUN students are ineligible to benefit from the loan, given that their admission did not pass through JAMB.

In a swift response, Prof. Peters described the statement as misleading and urged the public to discard it.
