College of Nursing Sciences Obudu commence degree awarding peogramme

The College of Nursing Sciences Obudu in Cross River state, south south Nigeria has commenced the awards of national Diploma (ND) High National Diploma (HND) post Basic Nursing and others Nursing’s programs following the accreditation of the college by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) in October 2023.

The college which was established in 1952 had been a citadel of training of Midwifery and others basic Nursing programs before it was upgraded by the past administrations of Professor Ben Ayade to present status.

In a colorful median matriculation ceremony at the school campus Obudu, the visitor to the College and the special Guest of Honor ,His excellency Senator Prince Bassey Otu the Cross River state Governor who was represented by the Commissioner for Health Dr.Egbe Ayuk of Cross river state charges the matriculating students to make used of the opportunity to pursue their carriers with excellent.

Dr. Ayuk stated that “Cross State government is working hard to equipped all the four colleges of nursing in the state with infrastructure through a private public partnership (ppp), and the governor is determined to give his best especially in the provision of basic health services to the people”.

According to Dr Ayuk ‘in as much as the state government is key in services delivery, the communities must also lean their support in safeguarding the state assets by stopping people encroaching into the government acquired land”.

He assured the good people of Obudu, that the government of the state had not abandoned the Obudu general Hospital and plan how to start the project as soon as possibly and the students matriculating today will served as a pool of workforce in future when the hospital is completed.

In her matriculating speech, the Pioneer Provost of the College,Dr (Mrs) Victoria Asabe Undeshi said. “ we are Immensely grateful to Cross River state past and present administration for keying into the current reforms in Nursing, we are also grateful to them for locating a College of Nursing Sciences in Obudu to fulfilling the dreams and the aspirations of the people of Obudu and the state in general.

She said ,the College acknowledges the huge contribution of the various stakeholders both at home and abroad whose benevolence had led to the sustenances of the mission and vision of the College.

According to the the Provost, the governing Council and management of the College will ever remain grateful to both past and present administration for their magnanimity and resolve to transform Nursing Education in the state and particularly the College of Nursing Sciences Obudu .We also salutes the generosity of the government officials past and present as well as individuals and groups.it is instructive to note that,the special efforts of the Urban 1 the traditional Ruler Council donated over six (6) hectares of land to meet up NBTE and NMCN accreditation requirements as the Ministry of Education for donating the used classrooms and hotels block in Girls Secondary school Obudu.

Dr Victoria charged the students to pursues their studies with diligence in the College and embraced academic integrity by learning and understanding the rules of academic enragement for the next four years and three years respectively while taking the opportunity to realized that the success of their careers lay in the hand.

In good will message,the Paramount Ruler of Obudu Kingdom,His Royal Majesty,Utsu Felix B. Okundare represented, emphasized that the success of the school is of great concern to us and we must stop at nothing to achieving it.

Dr Mrs Linda Ayade the President and founder of Madiatrix Development Foundation expressed Her pleasant moment to witness the median edition of the matriculation while charging all students to pursue their carriers with excellent and discipline.

Mrs Ayade was also conferred with outstanding award by the management of the College for her nomerious contributions to the realization of the degree programs.

The former chief staff to governor Ayade and Chairman of the Occasion,Hon. Dr Martines Orim represented by Dr Alex Asfor HOD of the mathematics department Federal College of education Obudu also pleaded his support for the college and said ,Chief Martines will be doing all his best to see to the realization of the vision and mission of the College.

According to Dr. Alex although Chief Martins is unavoidable absent but he had asked him to stand in for him while he will be coming privately to make his contributions to the school management.

Highlight of the occasion was the the presentation of new students for induction and the capping by Chairperson pioneer governing board, Mrs Mary U.Esuku and presentation awards to various personalities who had contributed to the success of the College, among them was the former perm Secretary in the Cross Rivers Ministry of health and Mrs Linda Ayade among others.
