Boko Haram fighters are currently relocating to forests of Abuja, seat of the Federal Capital Territory, Kogi and Nasarawa States, according to intelligence reports by the Nigeria Customs Service which was obtained by CAPITAL POST on Saturday.
In a circular titled: “Intelligence on National Security”, dated 20th August, 2020 ref. NCS/ENF/ABJ/180/S.I/Vol.50 which was signed by HA Sabo, Comptroller (Enf. HQ), it urged the officers to be on security alert and be conscious of their environment.
Customs officers are usually on patrol on Nigeria’s roads to stop and search for smuggled items, hence, the need for the officers to heed to the early warnings.
The circular reads: “Information reaching the Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC) reveals the existence of Boko Haram terrorists camps (BHTs) in and around the Federal Capital Territory.
“Further reports have it that they are planning to attack some selected targets within the territory. They are reported to have set up their camps in the following identified enclaves.
“Kunyan bush along airport road off DIA staff quarters, Abuja.
“Robochi/Gwagwalada forest
“Kwaku forest Kuje
“Umaisha forest in Toto Local Government Area of Nasarawa State
“Gegu forest close to Idu Town in Kogi State.
It’s recalled that Nigeria’s Northeast has been the battle ground for Boko Haram fighters, but have lately extended their operations to the Northwest.
