Kano Emirship Crisis: Police dislodge local hunters guarding Sanusi, takes over palace
The Police have dislodged local hunters who have been guarding the reinstated Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi II in his Emir’s palace at the Gidan Rumfa and took over.
Known in Hausa local language as “Yan Tauri”, the local hunters have been guarding Sanusi, since police authority seem to be backing the former Emir, Aminu Ado Bayero.
At the time the Police arrived the palace on Sunday evening, the hunters who were earlier drawn from the 44 Local Governments of Kano State in their usual manner were playing whot, to while away time.
The development comes amid rumour that the Federal Government had plans to relocate the embattled Aminu Ado Bayero.
Bayero was removed last month as Emir alongside the dissolution of four Emirate Councils through a law passed by Kano State House of Assembly, but which was set aside last week by a Federal High Court in Kano.
The Spokesperson for Kano State Police Command could not be reacked for his comment, but sources at the Palace confirmed that the local hunters have been sacked.
“Did you need me to tell you that they (hunters) are no longer here? You can see it yourself; everyone has found his way”, a police officer at the palace said.
Residents of the area also told our reporter that the hunters withdrew from the palace between Saturday and Sunday morning following a court ruling that invalidated the reappointment of Mr Sanusi as emir on Thursday.
“Some of them left behind their machetes to conceal their identity after they were asked to vacate the palace or face the wrath of the security agents”, one of the residents said.
