NCWS Nigeria concludes 7-Day prayer for late National President
The National Council for Women’s Society (NCWS) Nigeria concluded a 7-day prayer session on Tuesday at its headquarters in Abuja to honor their late National President, Hajiya Lami Lau Adamu.
The event drew prominent figures, Like former Secretary General of Nigeria Boss Mustapha, Former Minister for Women Affairs, Dame Pollen Tallen and heartfelt tributes highlighting her significant contributions and enduring legacy.
Senator Oluremi Tinubu, the wife of the President of Nigeria, was represented by Hajia Nana Shettima, wife of the Vice President. She expressed profound sorrow over Hajiya Lami Lau Adamu’s passing, emphasizing her positive impact on women’s rights and social justice across the nation.
“The passing of Hajiya Lami Lau Adamu is not only a great loss to her family and friends but also to the entire community of women. She has contributed positively toward impacting and promoting, protecting, and projecting the image of our women across the nation,” Shettima stated.
“She has done her part. As a Muslim, I know that there is a time for everything, and every living soul must taste the pain of death. But on behalf of the Grand Patron of NCWS, I would like to extend our sincere condolences to all families and the immediate family. Insha ‘Allah, with the caliber of the Grand Patron that we have, the Mother of the Nation, for those who knew her, she was someone passionate about giving succor to the downtrodden.”
Allso speaking, Federal Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, also paid tribute, reflecting on the late president’s supportive and guiding nature. “It is so sad. Since I took over the Ministry of Women Affairs, so many women are yet to understand me, but I’m trying my best. With time we will understand each other better. If I have offended you in any way, let me use this opportunity, as we pay the last respect to the NCWS president, to say I am sorry. If I offend you again, forgive me in advance. We must stand by one another.
“It is so painful that a woman who stood by me, advising me like a mother, sister, and friend, passed on just as we were about to start. Even when I got carried away, she would come to the office to guide me. With a heavy heart, I say farewell to our mother and sister and plead with everyone to emulate her good character.”
On her part, The acting National President of NCWS, Mrs Geraldine Ita Etuk, delivered a moving tribute titled “Legacy of Light: A Tribute to Our Guiding Gem.” She praised Hajiya Lami Lau Adamu as a transformative leader, a beacon of hope, and a tireless advocate for women’s rights. “Always in our hearts and consciousness would our own, Hajiya Lami Adamu Lau, remain forever. She was a leader whose presence was transformative. She was a beacon of hope to women, a guardian for the voiceless, and a champion for all in need of her touch.
“Her unwavering dedication to women’s rights and social justice was like a steady flame in a darkened world. She fearlessly confronted injustices, led with empathy, and inspired countless souls. To me, she wasn’t just the president of NCWS; she was a friend—a confidante, a mentor. The memories we shared will forever be etched in my heart.
“Farewell, dear friend, mentor, and leader. Your absence leaves a void that can never be filled, but your legacy will endure, inspiring generations to come. Rest in peace, our rare gem, knowing that your light will forever illuminate our path.”
