Insecurity: Nigeria not ripe for state Police — Senator Garba Maidoki
Kebbi South Senator,.Garba Maidoki has declared that Nigeria is not ripe for State Police, hence it’s creation will create opportunity for State governors to abuse.
The lawmaker in the upper legislative Chamber stated this on Wednesday while speaking with journalists on security issues.
According Maidoki, having see how the state governor across state using Executive Power in the Election in their various Local Government through state Resident Electoral Commission, payment of salaries at the local government level it is cleared that Nigeria is not ready for state Police.
Kebbi lawmakers also question on the States will generate fund to pay salary and allowance going by what many states are currently complaining, ” many questions are yet to be answered regarding the Creation of state police”.
Sen Maidoki, is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from Kebbi State lamented how Nigeria Security agencies especially Nigeria Military has not leave up to the expectations of Nigerians as regards to their primary responsibilities of protection of lives and properties.
He revealed how Kebbi State Governor told him he spends N500 million to Nigerian Army without result.
Sen. Maidoki also says despite the monthly package paid to the Nigerian Army, many of the communities are still under siege by terrorists and the lives of the residents are threatened.
He said “I think if the Nigerian Army relies on the governors to give them money to mobilise for operation, I think, in this country, we are not making any headway”.
He however, cautioned the military of solely depend on the State governors before mobilising troops for operations for better results.
