The :Provisionary Committee of the proposed Nigerian Coast Guard has petitioned President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over activities of impostors who are hell-bent to forcefully take over the leadership and administration of the organization.

A copy of the petition which was obtained by CAPITAL POST in Abuja, indicated that members of the Nigerian Merchant Navy and their allies, are perfecting plot to take over the proposed Nigerian Coast Guard despite the proscription and dissolution of the Nigerian Merchant Navy.

The petition which was also copied relevant security agencies urged quick intervention to avoid the breakdown of law and other, describing activities of criminal elements as “coup de tat”, as they have forged documents which they used to recruit young Nigerians and offering them military training in the name of the Nigerian Cost Guard.

Part of the petition read: “Professionally Competent Functionary, the Provisionary Committee acknowledges the immense importance of your Organization in terms of combating crimes in our society. I respectfully wish your esteemed Establishment unhindered success in dealing with these groups of wrongdoers who are recklessly daring relevant Authorities and Law Enforcement Agents.

“It is here informed that Members of the Dissolved, Proscribed and Prohibited Nigerian Merchant Navy and their allies, are more daring now than ever, by taking their crime level to a damning climax; including a coup d’état against the Provisionary Committee, to forcefully seize control and brazenly take-over the facilitative process of the proposed Nigerian Coast Guard.

“They have been at this game since April 2022 when they used propaganda to achieve that but failed. After that failure, they pulled out and formed National Coast Guard, through which they defrauded innocent Nigerians. That also failed. They instituted a lawsuit against the Provisionary Committee, arguing that Nigerian Coast Guard should not be separated from Nigerian Merchant Navy, which was dismissed.

“They approached Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy for recognition, but, were advised to go and join the Nigerian Coast Guard Facilitation Team, to enhance their chances. They approached the Provisionary Committee and were told to go through the Screening Committee, which they refused, saying that they are above clearance picking up Data Update Form.

“The worst situation now is that they are using the name of Nigerian Coast Guard as if it is a legal entity on Letter Head Paper with their Nigerian Merchant Navy Logo and Motto on it. They are currently recruiting in the name of Nigerian Coast Guard and carrying out military training, issuing certificate and ID Card.

“It is a fact that these crop of Nigerian Merchant Navy members and their allies have no enviable history. Now, they have moved from worse to worst, in their crime.”

“The aggravating factors are, unwillingness to change from illegal activities of defrauding innocent Nigerians with recruitment, military training, company contract, deployment to lucrative job locations, privileged connections, among others;

“Production and issuance of ID Card bearing the name of Nigerian Coast Guard, but, with Nigerian Merchant Navy logo on it; wearing Nigerian Coast Guard uniform with Nigerian Merchant Navy ranks, and other accouterments on it.

“Holding secret national, zonal, state and command on line meetings in the name of Nigerian Coast Guard. Parading themselves as Executives of the Facilitation Team of the proposed Nigerian Coast Guard, while in actual fact they are Members of the proscribed Nigerian Merchant Navy.

“Their activities, involvement and history are traceable to generic, specific, qualifying and inherent circumstances with negative history of illegalities. The proscription Order of 2013 is still binding on the Nigerian Merchant Navy. The dismissed lawsuit of 20th March 2024 is binding on all of them;

“The acclaimed back dated registration of NG/TM/O/2022/86868 is in contempt of Order 2013. Even at that, it’s a private outfit. Nothing they pursue, but, illegalities. Attached herewith are copy each of ID CARD, Letter Head Paper and their publication against the establishment of the proposed Nigerian Coast Guard. They are more daring now than ever, by taking their crime level to a damning climax; including a coup d’état against the Provisionary Committee, to forcefully seize control and brazenly take-over the facilitative process of the proposed Nigerian Coast Guard.”

The Information and Public Relations Department of the Provisionary Committee, LT. Cdr. Bbatunde Ganiyu, in a statement said, “Their plot was finally uncovered when they took about one hundred and fifty (150) Nigerians youths that they recruited to Sagamu, Ogun State, in the name of Nigerian Coast Guard, for 2-weeks unauthorized military training captioned re-orientation class.

The plotters’ grave act of indiscipline, conspiracy, subversion and disloyalty is a revelation of the degree of their desperation to consistently remain in their business of defrauding innocent Nigerians seeking employment. These dare devil impersonators and desperados have the Dissolution and Proscription Order 2013 and an Abuja High Court judgment hanging on their neck, yet, have refused to obey.”
