Crisis erupts in Edo Assembly as Speaker suspends 3 lawmakers over attempt to impeach him

Three members of Edo State House of Assembly have been suspended indefinitely by the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku on Monday over alleged attempt to impeach him.

Members suspended are, Mr Donald Okogbe, PDP Akoko-Edo11; Bright Iyamu, PDP Orihonmwon South; and Adeh Isibor, PDP, Esan North East 1.

The Speaker at the resumption of plenary on Monday explained that the suspended members of the House were being influenced by forces from outside to stoke crisis leading to his impeachment and other principal officers.

According to him, the suspended State legislators and some bad elements from outside brought native doctors into the House at midnight on Wednesday, May 1, 2024 to make some demonic incantations and dropped charms in the Assembly complex.

However, the suspension caused rowdy session, while the three suspended lawmakers were shouting “Mr Speaker, you do not have the right to unilaterally suspend any member(s) of the House.

“You must call for votes. Allow members vote on the matter,” the embattled lawmakers screamed.
