The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Umar Ganduje has inaugurated six governors as zonal coordinators.
Governor of Imo State and Chairman of the Progressives Governor’s Forum (PGF), Senator Hope Uzodimma, is the Coordinator South East Geopolitical Zone, Governor of Kwara state, Abdulrahaman Abdulrazak is the Coordinator, North Central while Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe state is the Coordinator North East.
Others are; Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Coordinator South West, Governor of Cross River State, Senator Bassey Otu, Coordinator South South and Governor of Kaduna State, Senator Uba Sani, Coordinator North West.
Dr. Ganduje said the idea was to oversee the activities of the party from the grassroots across the country.
“We are here to mobilize the demand of the people, we have to mobilize what the people like, to form an agenda for the party and for the government and also we have to disseminate information on what the government is doing down to the people. So in order to do that, we have narrowed down our activities to geopolitical zones.
“In all this, there must be a governor that will oversee, that will motivate, encourage all within that zone, that is the only way that we can move forward quickly”, he said.
The assignments of the zonal coordinators, according to the National Chairman is to;
-Coordinate the governors of the zones to always identify and participate more on the activities of the party
-Initiate periodic interface between the governors of the zones with the leadership of the party.
-Liaise with the party to commence immediate process of genuine reconciliation of aggrieved party members in the geopolitical zone.
-Mobilize governors of the zones to effectively and physically participate in party activities in the zone.
-Consult with governor’s and resolves some issues that will further enhance the progress and unity of the party.
-Assists the party on resource mobilization in serving the party.
-Participate in any other activity that may be assigned by the party.
Speaking on behalf of the Coordinators, Hope Uzodimma, assured that all the Zonal Coordinators will deploy all their expertise to achieve success.
“We are very delighted and happy that the party in its wisdom introduced this new policy of properly coordinating the party. Like you are aware, we at the Progressive Governor’s Forum has a membership of 20 governors which means 20 states currently being governed by APC.
“We have to start from there to ensure an inclusive participation of all members of our party, and to take this participation to the grassroot, I think that’s the wisdom behind this inauguration.
“So, what we’re saying now is that we’re supporting the Federal Government; we’re going to help them to succeed in the implementation of their various policies to recover the nation’s economy.
“So we are indeed very glad with our party for this innovation, very innovative idea and they have involved us as drivers of the programme. I think we are happy at the new development and that’s what democracy is all about”, he added.
